INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF STUDY

In Nigeria one of the ultimate important of education is to impact every citizen with such knowledge skills attitude and values that will enable him derive desired benefits from the membership of society fulfilling life and contribute towards the welfare and the national development. Academic achievement of Nigerian students at secondary school level in almost all the subjects include on economics as being low and not encouraging over the years and this is posing a bigger threat to education system (Obika 005). This could be as a result of poor mastery of the subject matter which occurs as a result of poor method of teaching.  Retting and canady (1996) reported that in school where active learning method prevails, the students demonstrate significantly I actually meant as measured by the national assessment of educational progress. Hall 1990 stated that teachers in the secondary school office student challenging interesting activities and Rich materials for learning that will start thinking creativity and production.

As improvement in all other sectors of learning gross problems arise as the best approaches of instruction in dealing with teaching and learning of home economics in Nigerian schools. the attitude of teachers and students towards the teaching and learning of compound subject in needs to be investigated and examine towards effective and efficient teaching and learning in secondary school. in order to make teaching and learning of home economics meaningful and interesting so that what is length remains an integral part of the learners teachers and students approaches perception and attitude needs to
